We are most pleased to celebrate the Baptism of your loved one here at St Kevin’s Templestowe. Baptism is a very special moment, for your family and our parish. We hope that this celebration will be one that will be remembered fondly and retold within your family in the years to come.
To assist you with preparation for Baptism, you will need to attend a Baptism Preparation Session.
Baptism Preparation Sessions are typically held on the third Tuesday of every month at 3 pm in the Parish Church Gathering Space. At this session, you will be presented with your child’s stole and a Baptismal offering envelope. We hope that after the session you will feel much more at ease with what happens during the Baptism ceremony and that any questions/queries you may have will be answered.
It is customary to make a donation to the Church at the time of the Baptism. A suggested amount is $100.00. This money is used to support our Parish Priest and the running of the presbytery here in Templestowe.
Baptisms at our Parish are celebrated fortnightly with our Parish Priest and are divided into two parts:
Part 1. We invite you to come to a Presentation Mass, where you will be presented to the parish community. The Presentation Mass is the commencement of the Baptism Sacrament. It is celebrated one week prior to the Baptism Ceremony at 10.00am on Sunday morning.
Part 2. Then, the second part of the Sacrament is celebrated – the actual Baptism Ceremony. This is celebrated during Mass on Sunday morning at 10.00am.
We would welcome a family photo for us to place temporarily onto our Parish Noticeboard so that all parishioners are reminded of the newest members to our community. A Baptismal candle is required for the celebration. These can be purchased from various religious suppliers. Should you wish to decorate your own please feel free to do so, however it would be appropriate to decorate it with a cross or other Christian symbols. We suggest that a pillar candle be used as these have a larger and sturdier base for standing. We look forward to working with you to ensure that your cherished family member’s Baptism is indeed a special celebration.
Completing the Baptism Registration Form and sending it back to us confirms your booking. Please ensure this is done prior to attending the Preparation Session.

As part of St Kevin’s Parish Welcome, we have a program called ‘GodStart’ for children (up to 4 years of age) who receive Baptism. Your child will automatically be included in the program.
